Foreign Minister announces end to sanctions resolution against Iran
mAliworldNews: Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has announced in a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the current head of the Security Council, Vassily Nebenzia, that the validity and duration of Security Council Resolution 2231 will end on October 18, 2025.
In this letter, Seyed Abbas Araghchi pointed to the clause of Resolution 2231 and emphatically stated that Iran's nuclear issue should be removed from the Security Council's agenda after ten years, and thereafter, there is no legal basis for any sanctions against Iran's nuclear program.
He reminded of the approval of the nuclear agreement in 2015, writing that the Islamic Republic of Iran has fully and sincerely adhered to the agreement from the beginning, but the United States, by withdrawing from the nuclear agreement in 2018 and imposing sanctions, has openly violated international law and the United Nations Charter.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi criticized the attitude of the European countries party to the nuclear deal, saying that France, Germany, and the United Kingdom not only failed to comply with the agreement but also imposed new sanctions against Iran, which further weakened the nuclear deal.
In a part of his letter, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized that despite repeated violations by Western countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran acted with great patience and restraint and has only taken gradual, compensatory, and reversible measures within the framework of the agreement since 2019.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi concluded with emphasis that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adhered to diplomacy and demands full implementation of the agreement from all parties in the context of the nuclear deal.
On the other hand, after ten years of implementing the nuclear deal, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that from October 18, 2025, all military and nuclear sanctions listed in Security Council Resolution 2213 have been nullified.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphatically stated in its statement that there is no legal basis for any kind of sanctions under this resolution thereafter, and that Iran's nuclear issue should be removed from the Security Council's agenda.
