Revolution in electric shipping: China introduces largest river cargo ship
China has launched the world's largest electric river cargo ship, which runs on lithium batteries instead of conventional fuel.
mAliworldNews/Science/Technology: The ship named Gizoba is 130 meters long and can carry a maximum weight of 13,000 tons. It operates on 12 lithium battery power units that collectively provide 24,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity.
The engineers who developed this ship say that the batteries can be rapidly replaced, and the ship's maximum range is 500 kilometers.
This ship is equipped with an advanced smart control system, which allows for remote navigation and automatic berthing.
Yin Shenping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering said that the development of this ship is not just an innovation in a single product but a comprehensive technological advancement that successfully tested fundamental technologies such as large batteries and DC power systems.
He further stated that they successfully integrated new engines, smart control systems, and coastal infrastructure, and practically demonstrated advanced technologies like large batteries, DC power systems, remote piloting, multi-network integration, and ship-to-shore communication.
According to Chinese media, this electric ship will save 617 tons of fuel annually and reduce carbon emissions by up to 2,000 tons per year.
