According to media reports, the Saudi Arabia-backed Leadership Council in Yemen has attacked the UAE-backed separatist group, the Southern Transitional Council of South Yemen, and announced a 90-day state of emergency in the country along with a 24-hour air, sea, and land blockade on all its ports and internal routes.
Rashad Al-Alimi, head of the Saudi Arabia-backed "Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen," demanded that the UAE-backed separatist group "Southern Transitional Council of South Yemen" accelerate the withdrawal of its forces from the provinces of Hadramaut and Al-Mahrah unconditionally. He also demanded that the "Deraa al-Watan" forces affiliated with the "Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen" mobilize and take control of military bases and barracks in these two provinces. Rashad Al-Alimi clarified that he had ordered the formation of a liaison committee to reduce tensions in South Yemen, but it was opposed.
The head of the Saudi Arabia-backed "Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen" further stated that the movements of the military groups affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council can only be described as rebellion. He said that no one has the right to decide on behalf of the people of southern Yemen.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement demanding that the United Arab Emirates withdraw all its forces from Yemen within 24 hours and refrain from providing any kind of military support to separatist groups. The statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the actions taken by the brotherly country, the United Arab Emirates, are very dangerous, and any threat or harm to our national security is our red line, and Saudi Arabia will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to deal with such matters.
Meanwhile, the forces of the United Arab Emirates’ Transitional Council have recently advanced in Hadramaut province, capturing the city of Sayun and gaining control of some oil reserves in the desert border areas connected to Saudi Arabia. Due to the advance of these forces in vast areas of Hadramaut, the "Dera al-Watan" forces affiliated with the Saudi-backed "Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen" have retreated.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, tensions have once again escalated sharply between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over the control of Yemen’s natural resources.
